The Secret Garden, novel for children written by American author Frances Hodgson Burnett and published In her garden book book form in The pastoral story of self-healing through nature and companionship became a classic of children’s literature and is considered to be among Burnett’s best work. The Paper Garden: An Artist Begins Her Life’s Work at 72, by Molly Peacock.

The book is lovely, lovely in its content and composition. The author entwines the life of Mary Granville Pendarves Delany with her own, and presents many parallels of the two artists in different media/5(85).

The book was delightful. It made me wish I had had an opportunity to meet her and talk with her. She was apparently a spunky, confident Southern lady who was never intimidated by anyone. The book talks about the creation of her garden, which amazingly still looks much like what she describes in her book.

But the book is more than the /5(52). Elizabeth and her In her garden book Garden is a semi-autobiographical book written in by Elizabeth von Arnim (author of The Enchanted April) about her life and garden in the area of Nassenheide, Pomerania, where the family had their estate (her husband was minor nobility).

Set in England, it is one of Burnett's most popular novels and seen as a classic of English children's literature. Several stage and film adaptations have been : Frances Hodgson Burnett. The Secret Garden opens by introducing us to Mary Lennox, a sickly, foul-tempered, unsightly little girl who loves no one and whom no one loves.

At the outset of the story, she is living in India with her parents—a dashing army captain and his frivolous, beautiful wife—but is rarely permitted to see them. I REALLY liked this bookas a gardener and as a reader. And since I had seen an interview with her, I also really liked her as a person.

She details her advent into the world of gardening including her mistakes and her passions which are many, to the extent of visiting gardens around the world, traveling many distances to buy plants and even going to China on a seed-collecting tour/5.
